Have a look at this blog post which describes a trip we organised a couple of years ago. A group of six friends stayed at Mincarlo for a week and spent 5 days swimming a mixture of coastal and island-to-island crossings.

  • In late 2016, I contacted Nick from Adventure Scilly to provide support and advice to organise tailored swims for me in Scilly. I had specific swims in mind which had been on my dream swims list for ages but required boat support and local knowledge. By early 2017, I had gathered a team of friends who had volunteered to accompany me for 5 days of swimming in Sept 2017 and were very keen to discover Scilly while doing so. Nick and I spent some time discussing the perfect swims ahead of the trip, still allowing flexibility for weather and tide changes.

As a group, we choose to all stay together at Mincarlo, the wonderful guesthouse also run by Nick and Bryony. Mincarlo was not only the perfect departure point by boat for our trips to the various starts of our swims but was also a great HQ for our group to partake in the next day’s swim planning while watching the harbour’s sunsets and sharing a drink.

During our stay, Nick briefed us each day at breakfast and helped us decide together on any last-minute changes, if we had to adapt to conditions or if the group felt like making amendments to the route. His great local knowledge also gave us access to areas normally only really frequented by locals. We discovered wonderful coves, beaches and wildlife while feeling completely supported, safe and guided during swims perfectly tailored to our abilities and desire to challenge ourselves and explore the wonderful isles of Scilly.
