A Swimrun is a multiple-stage competition where participants run and swim over a cross-country course that involves many transitions between the swim and run stages of the race. [source Wikipedia.]
The originators of the sport ÖTILLÖ chose Scilly as their first ever UK venue in June 2016. Bryony and her teammate Rob were the only team from the islands and finished in a creditable 61st out of 70 finishers (11 teams did not finish) in a field including world-class elite athletes. There are several Scilly teams entered for the 2017 event on June 17th including Nick & Bryony (in separate teams!) and Bryony and Nick (again in separate teams!) took part in the 2018 sprint race.
The event really showed Scilly off to the world and has also brought great interest in the sport locally. We now have a group of 12 or so people who meet every couple of weeks for social swimruns. You can check out the Scilly Swimrun Facebook group.
We can offer private guided swimruns across Scilly and are looking into running holidays and training camps so do get in touch if you’re interested.
Scilly Swimrun Adventure
In May 2018 we planned a long weekend exploring Scilly and the OtillO route. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough demand to run it but hopefully we’ll do it again in the future. [more details]
Scilly low tide inter-island walk
On a really low spring tide it’s possible to walk between most of the islands. In 2016 we ran our first inter-island walk event on September 18th to tie in with the Scilly Swim Challenge.
In 2019 there are a couple of suitable tides, April 20th and September 29th. More details coming soon. Alternatively we can organise bespoke trips.
